Alstom has secured a €125m contract from Rideau Transit Maintenance General Partnership (RTM) to maintain the city of Ottawa’s light rail transit system in Canada

The award for the O-Train Confederation Line follows a contract signed in 2013 to supply 34 Citadis Spirit light rail vehicles to Ottawa

Under the contract, Alstom will be responsible for maintaining the complete line

The 30-year maintenance contract covers the tracks, operating controls and power substation, as well as the signalling and communications systems

Rideau Transit Maintenance general manager Grant Bailey said We are pleased to award Alstom this expanded scope in maintaining the Confederation Line system

This contract places many of the critical system interfaces under the responsibility of a single service provider and will result in streamlined maintenance processes and improved system reliability

The 12.5km-long line will have 13 stations and is expected to begin a full service in 2018
